Grouped Products in WooCommerce let you showcase related items together on a single page, making it easier for customers to browse and purchase complementary products individually. This approach improves the shopping experience and can boost your average order value.
This guide walks you through how to add a Grouped Product using WooCommerce, from creation to optimization.
What is a grouped product
A Grouped Product is a collection of related products that are listed on the same product page but purchased individually. Each product within the group keeps its own pricing, inventory, and description. Grouped Products are ideal for items typically bought together, such as a laptop and accessories like a mouse, keyboard, and bag.
How to create a grouped product
- Go to Products > Add New in your WooCommerce dashboard.
- Enter a title for your grouped product (e.g., "Back to School Set").
- In the Product Data panel, choose Grouped product from the dropdown.
- The price tab will disappear—this is expected.
- Click Publish to save the grouped product.
How to add products to a grouped product
- Ensure that the child products (usually Simple Products) are already created. If not, create them first.
- Go to Products > All Products.
- Find and edit the Grouped Product you created.
- Scroll to the Product Data section and click Linked Products.
- In the Grouped Products field, search for and select the child products you want to include.
- Drag and drop to reorder them.
- Click Update to apply the changes.
Important:
Grouped Products themselves do not track inventory or pricing—each child product retains its own.
Tips for optimizing grouped products
- Use high-quality images: Ensure the main image represents the group, with individual images for each item.
- Create clear titles and attributes: Make it obvious what the grouped product includes.
- Enable cross-selling: Use related product suggestions to drive additional sales.
- Ensure smooth navigation: Make it easy for customers to browse and select items within the group.
Inventory management for grouped products
- Grouped Products don't have stock numbers.
- Manage inventory for each linked product individually in the Inventory tab.
- Keeping accurate stock data prevents overselling and improves fulfillment.
Note:
You can add the same product to multiple grouped products. Grouping strategies like custom bundles or mix-and-match sets can further personalize the customer experience.
Grouped Products offer a flexible and effective way to sell product sets without limiting buyer choice—boosting convenience for your customers and potential revenue for you.
