Regular backups are crucial for keeping your website and its data secure and integral. Whether you experience an error you cannot identify, need to quickly undo changes, or have accidentally wiped some of your data, backups can be a lifesaver in all sorts of undesired situations.
10Web provides users with a fully automated incremental backup service that offers a bulletproof layer of protection for your website’s security.
What are incremental backups?
An incremental backup is a data backup method that saves only the changes made to the data since the last backup.
Here’s how it works:
- Initial full backup: The first step in an incremental backup strategy is to perform a complete backup of all data. This serves as the baseline for future backups.
- Subsequent incremental backups: After the initial full backup, each subsequent incremental backup will only save the data that has changed since the last backup was made. This could be since the last full backup or the last incremental backup.
Since each backup only captures the changes since the last backup, this method uses less storage space compared to full or differential backups. Moreover, backing up only the changed data reduces the amount of data to process, thus speeding up the backup operation.
Storage and quota management
All backups are stored for 30 days and are automatically overwritten with newer backups to ensure up-to-date restore points. Backup points created with the Backup service do not count towards the overall SSD storage quota of your Workspace, thus incurring no additional charges for extra storage. Due to the inherent limitations of incremental backups, however, it is not possible to manually delete any backup points.
Accessing the backup service
- Go to 10Web Dashboard menu and navigate to the Backups section.
- View the list of daily backups with dates and backup sizes.
- Use the options to restore or download any backup.
- Schedule daily backups at your preferred time.
Manual backup
You can perform a manual backup to create a new incremental point in your backup list. There is no limit to the number of manual backups you can create.
To perform a manual backup
- Select the option to Create Backup.
- Check the backup list for a new entry labeled Manual.
Note:
Manually performed backups will be labeled as Manual in the backup list.
Restore backup
Backups can be restored in the environment where they were created.
To restore a backup
- Select the backup you wish to restore from the list.
- Navigate to the Restore button.
- Confirm the restoration in the same environment it was created.
Note:
In the coming releases, we will provide an option to restore backups in any environment of your choice.
Download backup
Backups can be downloaded directly from the dashboard. After clicking the download icon, you will receive a popup notification that a download link will be sent to your email. This link will also appear on the dashboard once it is ready.
To download a backup
- Click the Download icon next to the desired backup.
- Check your email or dashboard for the download link.
- Use the link within 12 hours to download the backup.
Note:
The download link remains active for 12 hours.
Staging backup
The staging environment backup interface mirrors that of the live environment. The backup service activates with the staging activation, and the scheduling of backups and backup points will be separate from the live environment. All limits and settings are consistent with the live environment and operate independently.
Note:
An automated backup of the live environment is performed before pushing changes from staging to live, and vice versa. If staging is disabled, all associated backups will be deleted.
10Web Backup Service ensures your website's data remains secure and easily recoverable with automated incremental backups and flexible management options.
