Using 10Web managed hosting allows you to access your website files through SFTP. When using SFTP, you can securely access, manage, and transfer files between your computer and your website.
Choose an SFTP Client
Choose an SFTP client that’s compatible with your operating system. There are many out there, such as FileZilla, Transmit, Cyberduck, etc. For demonstration purposes we’ll be using FileZilla.
SFTP Credentials
To connect your hosted website using SFTP credentials, go to your 10Web dashboard at my.10web.io and click on the website you want to connect.
From the menu on the left, under Hosting Services, click on Credentials. On the right side of your screen you’ll find your SFTP credentials.
Connect Your Website
Copy and paste the SFTP credentials from your 10Web dashboard into the SFTP client you are using.
In FileZilla you’ll find the four fields next to the Quickconnect button (Host, Username, Password, Port).
Because all websites hosted at 10Web use a secure connection, in the field next to Host, make sure to enter sftp:// in the Host field, then copy the SFTP Host content from your 10Web dashboard and paste it in the field after sftp://.
When you are finished filing in the information, click the Quickconnect button to connect your website.
Your website is now connected and you can transfer your content securely using SFTP. Your local computer content is on the left and your website content on the right.
Accessing Your Themes, Uploads, and Plugins
When you connect your website this way, the default directory will be set at /home/wplive in the Remote site directory field on the right.
To access your website theme files, add:
- /web/wp-live/wp-content/themes after /home/wplive in the Remote site directory field.
To access your website uploads, add:
- /web/wp-live/wp-content/uploads after /home/wplive in the Remote site directory field.
To access your website plugins, add:
- /web/wp-live/wp-content/plugins after /home/wplive in the Remote site directory field.
