Before you begin
If you've acquired a domain from a 3rd party domain registrar, you can easily point it to your 10Web-hosted site. Here's a guide on how to add the domain to your 10Web hosted site.
Note:
If you would like to use Cloudflare services with 10Web, please take a look at our Using Cloudflare with 10Web hosting article.
Step 1: Adding a domain
Once you have created or migrated your site to 10Web, the last step before going live is to point your domain to 10Web.
- Log into your trial or paid account.
- Click Manage on the website you want to point to
- Go to the Domains menu
- Click Add Domain > Already have a domain
- Fill in your domain name and click Add Domain
Your domain will be added to your site.
Step 2: Pointing a domain
There are two ways to point your domain: Nameservers or A record:
A record is used to link a domain name (e.g. example.com) to an IPv4 address.
Nameservers are the servers where all DNS records are managed. To manage your DNS records in the 10Web dashboard, you will need to point your domain using the 10Web nameservers.
Point with nameservers
Once your domain has been added to your site, you will be given 4 nameservers.
To point using the nameservers:
- In the 10Web Dashboard go to Domains
- Click on Details next to the domain you want to point
- Copy 10Web four Nameservers from the popup that will appear
- Sign into your domain registrar
- Go to Manage DNS records
- Replace the domain registrar nameservers with the 10Web nameservers
- Click Save
Note:
How to change nameservers will vary depending on your domain registrar.
Here are a few examples:
Changing nameservers at NameCheap․
Changing nameservers at Google Domains.
Important:
It can take up to 24 hours for the newly added records to be resolved and changes to take effect. Once the nameservers are resolved, all of your DNS records should be managed only from 10Web.
Point with A record
- Go to Credentials located under Hosting Services
- Copy your IPv4 address located in the Datacenter & IP section
- Log into your domain registrar
- Replace the existing A record or add an A record using the 10Web IPv4 address
- Click Save
Note:
How to create an A record will vary depending on your domain registrar.
Here are a few examples:
- Adding A record in GoDaddy
- Adding A record in NameCheap
- Adding A record in Google Domains
Important:
It can take up to 24 hours for the newly added records to be resolved and changes to take effect.
Step 3: Making the domain primary
Once your address has been resolved, you will need to make your new domain primary.
- Click on Domains
- Click on Make Primary
Note:
10Web offers free SSL for hosted websites. When pointing your domain, the free SSL option is checked to be added by default. If you don't want to add a free SSL, click to uncheck the checkbox.
- Click on Confirm
Note:
If you would like to redirect your www.yourdomain.com to yourdomain.com, you will need to also set up a CNAME record with your domain registrar.
