The most commonly used metaphor for DNS is “the phonebook of the internet.” It has the same relationship as the name of the person to whom the phone number belongs to in your phonebook. DNS (Domain Name System) is a translation of your domain name to an IP (Internet Protocol) address. A domain name is easily recognized and remembered by humans and the IP by the computer systems.
