A CNAME (Canonical Name) record maps a domain name to the hostname belonging to a different server IP. Depending on how you have pointed your domain (Nameservers or A record), how and where you set up CNAME records will vary.
Setting up a CNAME record after pointing with an A record
- Log into your domain registrar
- Click on the website you want to add a CNAME record to
- Go to Manage DNS section
- Choose CNAME from the record type
- Fill in the hostname of your subdomain (e.g. www.10web.io)
- Fill in where you want to point to (e.g. 10Web.io)
- Set the TTL (time to live). We recommend setting it to 1 hour
- Click Save
Note:
How to add/edit a CNAME record will vary depending on your domain registrar.
Here are a few examples:
- Adding CNAME record in GoDaddy
- Adding CNAME record in NameCheap
- Adding CNAME record in Google Domains
Important:
It can take up to 24 hours for the newly added records to be resolved and changes to take effect.
