Generative AI in 10Web AI Builder lets you create a complete website template from scratch or copy any pages—even non-WordPress ones—using their URLs. This streamlines website building a lot, but sometimes unintended changes to your existing content can occur. This article explains how to revert your site to its previous state after running 10Web AI Builder.
Important:
Always back up your site manually before using major generative features. This ensures a safe fallback option if unexpected changes occur. Learn how to back up your site in our dedicated article on 10Web Backup Service. Restoring a backup is the quickest and most optimal way to roll back the inadvertent site modifications. If you don’t have a backup, the steps in this article provide workaround solutions to help you restore your site manually.
When a new site is generated over your existing one
You can run multiple AI generation attempts on a single site, within your overall generation attempts limit for the account. The newly generated AI page will replace your current homepage, and new inner pages will be added to the site without losing your current pages. It will also update the Global Styles and Colors of your site to those you select when filling out the AI questionnaire for your new generation.
If you are not satisfied with the new generation and no site backup is available to roll back to, here are the steps you can take to revert your changes:
- Enter your 10Web Dashboard and click Manage under the site you’ll be working on.
- Go to the AI Builder menu.
- Remove your new homepage, then click on the three dots next to your previous homepage and select Set Front Page from the dropdown.
- Similar to how you removed the newly created homepage, go over the pages list and remove the pages left after the last generation.
Quick tip:
You can easily discern these by the date in the Last Modified column.
- Now comes the trickiest part: as mentioned previously, AI Builder will overwrite Global Styles and Colors when running a new AI generation. If you do not have a site backup, you’ll need to re-adjust these settings manually. Please visit the dedicated article on configuring Global Styles and Settings for guidance.
- Finally, enter Hosting Services > Tools and click on the Clear Cache button to ensure the changes are reflected on the front end.
- Re-check your site from a new private or incognito tab to see if everything is back in place.
When adding a converted page to an existing site
Another great functionality of AI Builder is the ability to convert any online pages using their URLs and add them to your site. Here's the article containing more information about how it works. If your site had been built with AI Builder and was already using the Builder Theme prior to that, using this functionality wouldn’t wreak any havoc on it. However, if your site was built with any other theme, the page conversion menu will require you to change your theme before running AI Conversion.
Doing so may break the pages that were built with your previous theme. If you choose not to proceed with overhauling your site using converted pages and want to revert to your old theme without a recent backup, here are the steps to take:
- Enter your 10Web Dashboard and click Manage under the site you’ll be working on.
- Go to the AI Builder menu. Remove all converted pages.
Quick tip:
You can easily spot these by the date in the Last Modified column.
- Now, go to the WordPress Themes menu and switch back to your previous theme.
- Finally, enter Hosting Services > Tools and click on the Clear Cache button to ensure the changes are reflected on the front end.
- Re-check your site from a new private or incognito tab to see if everything is back in place.
