Domain
A domain is the human friendly name given to a main website associated with a unique IP address used by computer systems to call a website.
Example of a domain: yourdomain.com
Subdomain
Subdomains are subsites within your main or root domain. Subdomains are used for blogs, ecommerce websites, creating your site in different languages, etc.
Example of a subdomain: blog.yourdomain.com
Note:
When creating or migrating websites to 10Web, you can choose to point a subdomain to a separate WP install. Subdomains are highly customizable and can be used as separate sites that have separate WordPress installations. They can have separate DNS records from the main domain but cannot have separate nameservers from the main domain.
There are two cases when pointing subdomains to 10Web.
- Your main website is hosted at 10Web pointed with either an A record or Nameservers.
- When your main website is hosted elsewhere.
Pointing subdomain when main domain is hosted on 10Web
Before you start the process of pointing a subdomain to your main domain, please make sure your main domain is pointed properly.
Websites that have their main domain hosted on 10Web can have the main domain pointed using an A record or using nameservers. If your main domain is pointed to 10Web using nameservers, your DNS management will be in 10Web. If you have pointed your main domain using an A record, your DNS management will be where your nameservers are pointed.
