Quick tip:
You can change the PHP version from your dashboard in each website’s Tools under Hosting Services.
What is PHP?
Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) is an open-source, server-side language used to create dynamic, interactive web pages and web applications like WordPress.
When to change to a new PHP version
The PHP engine is always being updated and improved. Older versions of PHP reach the end of their life cycle two years after release. We recommend using your hosting tools to switch to the latest PHP version for the best performance, support, and security.
Changing PHP versions
- Log in to your 10Web dashboard.
- Click Manage on the site where you’d like to change the PHP version.
- Under Hosting Services, click Tools.
- Scroll down to the PHP version section and select the desired version from the drop down menu.
- A message appears asking you to confirm the new PHP version.
- A notification appears indicating changes to the PHP version are complete.
Potential issues to be aware of
Quick tip:
Try restarting PHP and clearing your site cache to resolve common issues such as page errors or slow website speed. Your site’s error log can also help with troubleshooting.
If you’re experiencing problems after changing the PHP version on your site, there may be a third-party plugin or theme that hasn’t yet added support for the new version. In this case, you have the option of:
- Changing back to the most up-to-date, supported PHP version, or
- Deactivating the plugin or theme causing the issue, and then switching to a different plugin or theme.
