This article provides detailed guidance to help you troubleshoot common issues that may occur when pointing your domain to a website hosted on 10Web.
Whether your domain is from 10Web or another registrar, follow these instructions to ensure your domain is set up correctly and functioning as expected:
- If you want to get a domain name from 10Web: How to Claim Free Domain from 10Web and Point It
- If you already have a domain name from another registrar and want to point it to your 10Web-hosted website: How to Point Your Domain from Another Registrar to 10Web Hosted Site
Checking if the domain is properly pointed
To determine whether your domain is successfully pointed to 10Web, follow these steps:
- Open any online DNS Checker tool (https://dnschecker.org/ - for instance)
- Enter your domain name into the search field.
- Review the A record information:
- The IPv4 address shown in the DNS Checker results must match the IPv4 address found in your 10Web dashboard under Credentials.
Note:
While you can see the domain's pointed or unpointed status in the Domains menu on your 10Web dashboard, it may not update instantly due to system refresh intervals. Using a DNS Checker provides real-time propagation updates.
If the IPv4 address matches but your website is still not live:
- Open the website in a new incognito window.
- Clear your browser cache or attempt to load the site using a different network. This eliminates potential caching issues caused by your browser or network.
Resolving domain redirection to a .10web subdomain
If the domain has been pointed to the correct IPv4 address but still redirects to the temporary .10web subdomain, check if the domain is set as the Primary Domain for your website.
- Log in to your 10Web dashboard.
- Select the website you wish to manage.
- Navigate to the Domains section.
- Review the list of domains:
- If the desired domain is not listed as the first option, select it and click Make primary.
- Once the change is made, verify the domain's A record again using a DNS Checker.
Troubleshooting a 10Web-registered domain not pointed
If you obtained your domain directly from 10Web, and it is not resolving to the correct IPv4 address or nameservers, follow these steps:
-
Verify your domain:
- Domains registered with 10Web require verification. A verification link will be sent to the email address provided during billing. This step is mandatory to activate the domain for use.
- After verifying the domain, navigate to the Domains menu on your 10Web dashboard. Ensure that the domain's status is listed as Active to confirm successful verification.
-
Add the domain to your site:
- Go to the website management section of your 10Web dashboard.
- Open the Domains tab.
- Click Add domain and select From domains list. Choose the domain you wish to point to your 10Web-hosted website.
-
Check the nameservers:
- If you have previously modified the nameservers to point the domain elsewhere, you must reset them to the default nameservers to point the domain back to 10Web:
- Open the Nameservers section of your domain settings.
- Click the Edit button and select Default Nameservers.
- If you have previously modified the nameservers to point the domain elsewhere, you must reset them to the default nameservers to point the domain back to 10Web:
If the domain is still not pointed after completing these steps, contact the 10Web Customer Care Team for further assistance.
Troubleshooting domains pointed from other registrars
If you added DNS records to point your domain from a third-party registrar and the domain still does not resolve to 10Web’s IPv4, follow these steps:
- Confirm that the DNS records were added to the correct registrar:
- Use a DNS Checker tool to identify your domain’s current nameservers.
- Ensure that the nameservers in the DNS Checker match the registrar where you added or updated the records.
- Verify the DNS record settings:
- If you’re pointing with A record: Check that the A record with 10Web’s correct IPv4 has been added correctly.
- If you’re pointing with NS records: Confirm that the domain’s default nameservers have been replaced with 10Web’s nameservers in the registrar’s settings.
Note:
DNS propagation times vary depending on the registrar. It can take as little as 15 minutes or up to 48 hours for DNS changes to fully propagate. If the IPv4 address or nameserver values have not updated after 48 hours, or there has been no progress after several hours, contact your registrar's support team for further investigation.
Pointing domain when using Cloudflare proxy
If you are using Cloudflare’s nameservers to manage your domain’s DNS settings, the IPv4 address may be hidden behind Cloudflare’s proxy service. To resolve this issue:
- Log in to your Cloudflare dashboard.
- Open the DNS > Records menu and locate the A records for the root domain (often represented as @).
- Check the Proxy Status column:
- If the status is set to Proxied, click Edit, change the proxy status to DNS Only, and save the changes.
- Use a DNS Checker tool to verify if the A record now resolves to the correct IPv4 address.
- Once propagation is complete and the domain is correctly pointed to 10Web, you can re-enable the Cloudflare proxy for added features and protection.
By carefully following these troubleshooting steps, you can resolve any issues with domain pointing and ensure your website is accessible under your chosen domain. If you encounter persistent issues, reach out to 10Web customer care team for personalized assistance.
